Role of Lewis acid centers in the initial stages of n-hexane cracking over high-silica zeolites
Abstract
The role of Lewis (L) and Broensted (B) acid centers on the H-form of high-silica zeolite in n-hexane cracking has been studied. Active centers were identified by IR spectroscopy in diffusely scattered light. It was established that increasing the L-center concentration in dehydroxylating the H form increases the yield of C/sub 1/-C/sub 2/ paraffins and hydrogen. It was concluded that the role of L centers is to initiate cracking by dehydrogenation or by cleavage of methane from paraffin molecules. The B centers take part in the subsequent conversions of the olefins thus formed.
