Title: Oil well fire extinguisher having upper and lower external flame retardant-dispersing rings

Abstract

This patent describes an extinguisher system for extinguishing flames from combustible fluid exiting from a pipe. It comprises an elongated tubular extinguisher body disposable over the combustible fluid emitting pipe; valve means mounted in the extinguisher body adjacent the upper outlet end for eliminating the flow of the combustion.

  • This patent describes a method for providing a safe environment for controlling oil wellhead blowouts at a wellhead and fires at such wellhead blowouts. It comprises enclosing the wellhead in a substantially oxygen-free interior work environment having an outlet to which any wellhead fire present is relocated; introducing a nonflammable oxygen-free gas in the interior work environment; controllably releasing flammable gases from the interior work environment; maintaining a gas pressure in the interior work environment that is less than that established by the nonflammable oxygen-free gas so introduced and greater than ambient pressure; and extinguishing any wellhead fire so relocated.
  • This patent describes an internal combustion engine which consists of: a cylinder bore having a wall; a piston having a crown, the piston being reciprocatively disposed in the bore in a manner to define a variable volume chamber; a swirl chamber into which fuel is injected; a transfer port fluidly interconnecting the combustion chamber and the swirl chamber. The transfer port arranged to introduce a charge compressed in the combustion chamber into the swirl chamber during a compression phase of the engine in a manner that the charge swirls within the combustion chamber; and a shaped recess formed in themore » crown of the piston.« less
  • A well packer for use in maintaining sealing integrity between inner and outer concentric conduits under downhole temperature and pressure conditions in a subterranean well is described comprising: a centrally located, tubular mandrel; an annular packing element carried about the tubular mandrel, which is radially expandable under axial compression; upper and lower axially shiftable annular shoulders respectively disposed on opposite sides of the packing element on the mandrel, at least one of the shoulders being movable towards and away from the other shoulder; an extrusion preventing device located between each shoulder and the packing element, wherein the planar surface ofmore » the inner ring is provided with a circumferential land which joins the innermost radial extent thereof for engaging the innermost radial extent of the outer ring to prevent extrusion of the packing element between the mandrel and the extrusion preventing member.« less
