Title: Ethanol and methane from corn stover

Journal Article · · Agric. Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7010682

Corn stover contains about 50% hemi-cellulose and cellulose which can be converted into energy or chemicals. Methane can be produced by anaerobic digestion and ethanol by acid hydrolysis followed by yeast fermentation. The processes are described. It is estimated that the capital cost for a process to handle 5,560 tons of corn stover per day to produce 1.42 million cubic meters of methane per day is around $46 million - that could supply all the methane for a city of about one million.
