Mass and width of the [rho][sup 0] from an [ital S]-matrix approach to [ital e][sup +][ital e][sup [minus]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]]
Abstract
We determine the mass and width of the [rho][sup 0] meson by applying the [ital S]-matrix formalism to the reaction [ital e][sup +][ital e][sup [minus]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]] in the timelike region. We obtain [ital M][sub [rho]]=(757.5[plus minus]1.5) MeV and [Gamma][sub [rho]]=(142.5[plus minus]3.5) MeV, which are significantly smaller than the values quoted by the Particle Data Group. These values are almost independent of the specific form used to model the background.
