Title: A method of preparing hydrogen sulfide gas calibration mixtures

In the present work, the authors have studied the possibility of preparing certified gas calibration mixtures of hydrogen sulfide by the catalytic hydrogenation of sulfur compounds at a concentration of the latter of 1 - 100 mg/m/sup 3/ in the gas. As the materials to be hydrogenated, the authors used ethyl mercaptan and sulfur dioxide which are converted into hydrogen sulfide over a platinum catalyst. The completeness of hydrogenation has been used for the metrological assurance of the automatic gas analysis system (AGAS) ''sera'', which has been used for monitoring the sulfur content of natural gas which is used for ammonia synthesis. In view of the lack of certified hydrogen sulfide mixtures, monitoring of the completeness of hydrogenation of sulfur compounds was carried out by an indirect method; from the absence of an ethyl mercaptan or sulfur dioxide peak on the hydrogenation products (on the chromatogram).
