Corrosion control in the diverse metal (iron and copper) condensate system has traditionally been difficult. Breakdown products such as ammonium from available corrosion inhibitors have often exacerbated corrosion of copper bearing condenser tubes. This paper reports a two year corrosion trial in two 150 MW operating units at varying loads which has shown that a hydroquinone product can reduce corrosion in the condensate system without generating an excessive amount of ammonium. Corrosion was measured by the iron and copper concentration in the boiler feedwater and the amount of iron and copper removed during boiler cleanings.
