This paper investigates vinyltrichlorosilane (VTCS), (cis-2-butenyl) methyldichlorosilane (BMDCS) and 3-cyclohexenyltrichlorosilane (CHTCS) as ACS. The following compounds were used as alkylation catalysts: The Gustavson complex; EtAlCl/sub 2/ + H/sub 2/O; EtAlCl/sub 2/.HCl; SnCl/sub 4/; TiCl/sub 4/ + CF/sub 3/COOH; BF/sub 3/. O(C/sub 2/H/sub 5/)/sub 2/. In combination with HCl or H/sub 2/O, EtAlCl/sub 2/ is an active catalyst for alkylation of aromatic compounds by alkenylchlorosilanes, and compounds of boron, titanium, and tin are inactive in this reaction.
