Effect of the partial pressure of oxygen on high-temperature oxidation of metals of the titanium subgroup

Experimental data presented shows that the curves of the dependence on the mean rate of oxidation of metals on PO/sub 2//sup 1/ contain four sections: increase; reduction; increase, and independence or reduction of this rate with increasing pressure of the oxidizer. The examination of the dependence of the mean rate of isothermal oxidation of the metals of the titanium subgroup on PO/sub 2/ /SUP i/ revealed two ranges of PO/sub 2/ /SUP i/ in which these metals transfer to the passive state. With increasing temperature, the corresponding pressure of the oxidizing agent P /SUB s/ ha /SUB p/ ha at which the metals transfer to the passive state increases.
