Energy levels, wavelengths, and radiative transition probabilities for the Li-like ions with 20 [le] Z [le] 25

An investigation by Xu et al. predicts the possibility that lasing in the water window (23.3-43.8 [angstrom]) will be realized with the Li-like recombination scheme at a large-scale high-power laser facility. The calculations show that the wavelengths of the transitions 5f-3d and 5d-3p in Ca[sup 17+], Sc[sup 18+], Ti[sup 19+], V[sup 20+], Cr[sup 21+], and Mn[sup 22+] lie in the region of the water window. The fine-structure levels (n [le] 12, l [le] 5) for these six Li-like ions and the radiative transition probabilities between them are calculated in the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock Scheme. 18 refs., 3 tabs.
