Abstract

The purpose of the report is to fulfill the requirement of section 403(e) of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. The report consists of four volumes. This component, Volume 2, of the report discusses information on the risks, the economic impacts of pollution control methods, a description of current legislative authorities, and state, local, as well as private problems addressing the issue. It concludes with a discussion of the policy issues on a comprehensive Federal response to indoor air quality.

This is a three-volume report plus executive summary with recommendations that fulfills the reporting requirement of Title IV Section 403(e) of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. The report contains a description of the research and program activities in Federal agencies; a comprehensive overview of the current level of knowledge and uncertainties associated with the issue of indoor air quality; and an identification of the major gaps and research needs in indoor air quality.

Technical Report

The EPA Indoor Air Quality Implementation Plan provides information on the direction of EPA's indoor air program, including the Agency's policy on indoor air and priorities for research and information dissemination over the next two years. EPA submitted the report to Congress on July 2, 1987 as required by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. There are five appendices to the report: Appendix A--Preliminary Indoor Air Pollution Information Assessment; Appendix B--FY 87 Indoor Air Research Program; Appendix C--EPA Radon Program; Appendix D--Indoor Air Resource History (Published with Appendix C); Appendix E--Indoor Air Reference Data Base.
Current federal indoor air quality activities

Technical Report

With the help of the Interagency Committee on Indoor Air Quality (CIAQ), EPA has published a list of Federal indoor air quality activities each year since 1988. The publication is the 1990 update of that list. Title IV of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986 requires EPA to establish a committee comprised of the Federal agencies concerned with various aspects of indoor air quality (IAQ) and to coordinate Federal IAQ activities.
