Title: Thermochemical energy transport systems study

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6950352· OSTI ID:6950352

A review of the recent literature is coupled with contacts with researchers in the area of thermochemical energy transport and storage systems to provide a basis for selecting a system. Four systems - SO/sub 3/ dissociation, ammonia dissociation, steam methane reforming, and CO/sub 2/ methane reforming - were chosen for further study. Finally, a preliminary flow sheet is developed for a four 11-meter parabolic dish solar reactor system based on SO/sub 3/ dissociation for construction at Sandia National Laboratories. The system would produce approximately 260 kW(t). A description of operation and a cost estimate of $2 million is presented.
