This patent describes a method of preparing an olefin polymerization catalyst precursor composition. It comprises: contacting a solid, porous carrier with an aluminum compound, contacting the product with a mixture containing a vanadium compound, and contacting the product with an ether selected from the group consisting of an alkyl ether having 2 to 18 carbon toms, an alkyl/aryl ether having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, or a silane either.
