Title: The effect of nanocrystallization on the oxidation resistance of Ni-5Cr-5Al alloy

Abstract

The investigation on the oxidation behavior of Ni-Cr-Al alloys is of great scientific and technological interest since these elements are presented in Ni-base superalloys. It has been shown that the oxidation resistance of Ni-base superalloys could be remarkably improved by using sputtered coatings with the same compositions as the substrates. In the present work, the oxidation resistance of Ni-5Cr-5Al (at%) coating produced by magnetron sputtering on the substrate of the same alloy at 1,000 C in air are studied. The studies are primarily concentrated on the effect of nanocrystallization on the oxide formation and its oxidation resistance for Ni-Cr-Al alloy at low Al and Cr contents.
