Title: The tensile creep response of Al-SiC particulate and whisker composites

Abstract

To date, comparatively little research has been carried out to relate the creep properties of discontinuously reinforced metal matrix composites to specific microstructural features. In this study, the creep response of powder-route aluminum reinforced with different sizes, shapes and volume fractions of SiC was characterized systematically. This provides insight into the micromechanisms of damage and failure, which will enable these materials to be more effectively exploited.
