Title: ISO-PC Version 1.98: User`s guide

Abstract

This document describes how to use Version 1.98 of the shielding program named ISO-PC. Version 1.98 corrects all known errors in ISOSHLD-II. In addition, a few numeric problems have been eliminated. There are three new namelist variables, 25 additional shielding materials, and 5 more energy groups. The two major differences with the original ISOSHLD-II are the removal of RIBD(radioisotope buildup and decay) source generator, and the removal of the non-uniform source distribution parameter, SSV1. This version of ISO-PC works with photon energies from 10 KeV to 10 MeV using 30 energy groups.

  • One of the objectives of the LDEF Special Investigation Group (SIG) was to develop a LDEF data base that identifies the experiment objectives and hardware flown, summarizes results and conclusions, and provides a system analysis overview which would include spacecraft design guidelines and space environmental effects. Compiling this information into an easily accessible data base format and making it available to the space community was a major task accomplished by the System and Materials SIG effort beginning in 1991. Included in this document is a short user`s manual for the LDEF Mini-Data Bases. The user`s manual contains pertinent examples frommore » the data base on specifically how to access and work with the LDEF information. Accompanying this document are the mini-data bases on disk.« less
  • The document is a user`s guide for an updated Personal Computer version of the Biogenic Emissions Inventory System (PC-BEIS2), allowing users to estimate hourly emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and soil nitrogen oxide emissions for any county in the contiguous United States. Emission rates depend on land use, emission factors, temperature, and solar radiation. A simple canopy model is used to adjust photosynthetically active solar radiation at five vertical levels in the forest canopy. Emission rates from vegetation other than forests are expressed as BVOC carbon mass per unit land area, with a constant peak growing season biomassmore » assumed. Light and temperature corrections are applied, but no canopy model is used for non-forested areas.« less
  • This document is a user`s guide for the PLoT Near-Surface WIND (PLTWIND) modeling system. PLTWIND is a personal-computer-based software product designed to produce graphical displays of Hanford wind observations and model-generated wind fields. The real-time wind data processed by PLTWIND are acquired from the mainframe computer system at the Hanford Meteorology Station and copied to PLTWIND systems by the Hanford Local Area Network (HLAN). PLTWIND is designed fbr operation on an IBM-compatible PC with a connection to the HLAN. An HP-compatible pen plotter or laser printer (with a minimum of 1.5 megabytes of memory and a Plotter-in-a-Cartridge hardware) is requiredmore » to generate hardcopies of PLTWTND`s graphical products. PLTWM`s products are intended for use by emergency response personnel in evaluating atmospheric dispersion characteristics in the near-surface environment. Model products provide important atmospheric information to hazard evaluators; however, these products are only tools for assessing near-surface atmospheric transport and should not be interrupted as providing definitive representation of atmospheric conditions.« less
  • The AREST code implements the Analytical REpository Source-Term model for the evaluation of radionuclide release from the engineered barrier system of an underground high level nuclear waste repository. Development of the AREST code has been funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM). This model has historically been run on VAX and SUN workstation platforms. With the advent of more powerful PCs and the development of advanced graphical user interfaces for PCs, the latest version of AREST was ported to PCs running OS/2. The purpose of this user`s guide is to explain andmore » illustrate the use of the Microsoft OS/2 Presentation Manager (PM) (Microsoft Corp., 1989) interface to the model. The performance models and assumptions for the AREST model have already been described in detail.« less
  • The PDERO User Guide has been developed by the Office of Oil and Gas (OO & G) in the Energy Information Administration (EIA). It can be used as an informational tool for a manager to become acquainted with the system or as a reference tool for the PEDRO user. As a result of enhancements made to the PEDRO system, this Guide supersedes the PEDRO User Guide (DOE/EIA-0528) published in November 1990.
