This patent describes a refrigeration system including an evaporator, a compressor for drawing gaseous refrigerant from the evaporator and for compressing the gaseous refrigerant to a higher pressure and temperature, and a condenser for receiving the high pressure gaseous refrigerant. A discharge valve and baffle assembly is described comprising: an inlet connected to the compressor for receiving the high pressure gaseous refrigerant therefrom, an outlet connected to the condenser for delivering the high pressure gaseous refrigerant thereto, a valve means for selectively opening and closing the outlet, the valve means being movable between a closed position wherein the valve means closes the outlet and an open position wherein the valve means opens the outlet, and a suction means for holding the valve means at the open position to prevent cycling of the valve means between the closed and the open positions during operation of the compressor.
