The catalytic hydrogenation of benzylideneacetone and its derivatives has been studied on rhodium black catalyst in aqueous alcohol buffer solutions in the pH range 2-11. The pH dependence of the hydrogenation rate constants has been found to consist of two separate lines which intersect at pH = ca. 7.5, for all compounds studied.
