Title: Electron and photon interactions with KClO/sub 4/

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6819434

The interaction of KClO/sub 4/ with electron beam and x-ray photons was examined. From the Auger data, it was found the electrons rapidly decompose KClO/sub 4/. High resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed KClO/sub 4/ to be unstable to non-monochromatic magnesium and titanium photon sources and stable to monochromatized Al K/sub ..cap alpha../ x-ray radiation. These data are discussed in terms of degradation mechanisms involving: (1) sample heating; and (2) electronic excitations or charge accumulation. 5 figures.
