Title: Resonance Raman and photophysical studies of polypyridine complexes of ruthenium (II)

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6816606· OSTI ID:6816606

This report provides a concise summary of the work conducted as part of the original proposal. In that document two major research areas were identified. The first objective, essentially fully achieved, involved the acquisition of sufficient vibrational spectroscopic data to permit us to derive meaningful descriptions of the normal modes of vibration for both the ground and {sup 3}MLCT excited states of Ru(bpy){sub 3}{sup 2+}. As explained in the original proposal, and as is summarized later in this report, such information can be used to obtain reasonably accurate quantitative structural data for the anion radical fragment of the {sup 3}MLCT state. In addition, these accurate mode descriptions may be useful in obtaining further insight into the detailed mechanism of non-radiative decay. The second major area involves the acquisition and utilization of ground and {sup 3}MLCT state vibrational spectra of various polypyridine and related complexes to elucidate electronic structures of the lowest lying excited states. Thus, this area is obviously open-ended.'' The final section of this report summarizes our investigations of zeolite- entrapped polypyridine complexes.
