Integrating UNIX terminal services into a distributed operating system

One solution to the problem of integrating the terminal services of a UNIX host into a distributed operating system is to implement the distributed operating system as a guest layer in UNIX and then to add a software interface that runs on the host and translates between the terminal services of the host and the distributed operating system. Such an interface was implemented at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Design issues and decisions that preceded software development are discussed, followed by details of software operation. Development experiences that would be applicable to a similar effort are described. 20 refs., 8 figs.
