Title: Saskatchewan`s state of the environment report, 1999: The Boreal Shield Ecozone, a land of lakes and forests

Abstract

The intent of this report is to outline the specific impacts of human activity that are judged deleterious to the future health of ecosystems of the Boreal Shield Ecozone in Saskatchewan. The report profiles the stresses imposed by natural processes and human activities (land use, water use, exploitation of renewable and non-renewable resources) and the present condition of the environment (physical, biological, and cultural, including land, air, water, wastes, renewable resources, and heritage sites). It also outlines a broad range of activities that are being conducted to mitigate negative impacts on the environment in such areas as mining, acid precipitation, water management, pollution prevention, waste management, renewable resources management, environmental assessment and monitoring, public involvement, and cultural initiatives.
