Effects of interaction of disperse metal particles with support in catalysts prepared with the use of organometallic compounds. III. Comparison of properties of Ni/TiO/sub 2/ and (Ni + Ti)/SiO/sub 2/
A study has been made of the state of the components and the catalytic properties of (Ni + Ti)/SiO/sub 2/ obtained by decomposition of anchored Ni and Ti complexes. According to the results obtained in chemisorption measurements and electron microscopic examination, these catalysts contain nickel particles smaller than 10 A and also surface Ti/sup n+/ ions (n = 2-3). The activity in hydrogenation of CO and the selectivity in forming higher hydrocarbons are considerably higher for the (Ni + Ti)/SiO/sub 2/ and Ni/TiO/sub 2/ in comparison with Ni/SiO/sub 2/; this difference can be attributed to interaction of a certain fraction of the nickel atoms with titanium ions, forming Ni-Ti/sup n/sup +// bonds. Preoxidation breaks these bonds, and the activity drops off sharply.
