Title: Effects of interaction of disperse metal particles with support in catalysts prepared with the use of organometallic compounds. IV. Influence of titanium ions on character of H/sub 2/ and CO adsorption on supported nickel

Abstract

The spectrum of thermal desorption of CO from a Ni/TiO/sub 2/ catalyst differs from the spectrum of desorption from Ni/SiO/sub 2/ in the presence of a high-temperature dissociative form of adsorbed CO, owing to strong interaction between the metal and support. The spectrum of desorption from a (Ni + Ti)/SiO/sub 2/ catalyst is a superposition of the spectra of desorption from Ni/SiO/sub 2/ and Ni/TiO/sub 2/; this indicates that, along with the Ni particles on the SiO/sub 2/ surface, there are particles interacting with titanium ions. Data on heteroexchange of C/sup 18/O with the oxygen of the support confirm that such interaction does actually exist. The modifying effect of surface titanium ions in (Ni + Ti)/SiO/sub 2/ and Ni/TiO/sub 2/ is related to the appearance of high-temperature forms of CO that are desorbed in the 800-900 K interval.
