Electroanalytical measurements in flowing liquids
Abstract
The authors of this book have attempted to provide a detailed description of the combined use of the flow-through principle of analysis and electroanalytical detection. Laboratory methods are emphasized over industrial analyzers and practical aspects over theory. The authors introduce the basic methods of flow analysis and the most important electroanalytical techniques. The main principles of hydrodynamics and hydrodynamic electrochemistry, which are not easy readings in most textbooks (e.g., in the classical work of Levich), are then summarized with exceptional clarity and simplicity. Using rules and formulas, the authors explain the design of electrochemical flow detectors. The most modern high-tech sensors (ion-selective field effect transistors, or ISFETS, and pneumatoamperometric detectors) are also described. The basic elements of flow systems (e.g., pumps and mixing tubes) and general flow analytical methods (e.g., flow-through titrations and analyte preconcentration) are also briefly surveyed. The last portion of the book pertains to a wide range of selected applications grouped according to both methodological points of view (e.g., potentiometry and voltammetry) and the chemical character of the sample (e.g., biological, environmental, or pharmaceutical).
