Abstract

Results are reported of a search for and analysis of decays of charmed particles produced in interactions of neutrinos with nuclei in nuclear emulsion. Cryogenically sensitive nuclear emulsion was placed in the 15-foot bubble chamber at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and bombarded in a neutrino beam with a broad energy spectrum up to 200 GeV. The search for interactions was carried out along the track in horizontally bombarded layers of emulsion with use of a target indication system. Decays of a ..lambda../sup +//sub c/ baryon, a D/sup +/ meson, and two D/sup 0/ mesons were recorded. The event with decay of a ..lambda../sup +//sub c/ baryon is interpreted as the production and decay of the charmed baryon resonance summation/sup ++//sub c/ (2450) into ..lambda../sup +//sub c/..pi../sup +/.

We report the results of an experiment on search for decays of charmed particles. Type BR-2 cryogenically sensitive nuclear emulsion placed in the 15-foot bubble chamber was exposed to a beam of muon neutrinos with a broad energy spectrum in the FNAL accelerator. We give an analysis of five recorded decays of short-lived particles, four of which are interpreted as decays of the charmed ..lambda../sup +//sub c/ baryon and D/sup +/, D/sup 0/, and D/sup 0/ mesons.

An experiment was performed in the 350 GeV wide-band neutrino beam at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory using a high-precision, high-efficiency hybrid emulsion/neutrino spectrometer, with which the mean lifetimes of the D/sup +/, D/sup 0/, and F/sup +/ mesons and ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ baryon were measured. 1829 neutrino interactions were reconstructed with a vertex within the emulsion fiducial volume, 1242 of which were subsequently found in the emulsion. Recent results from a hybrid emulsion experiment in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam of the measurement of the life-times of the charmed D/sup +/, D/sup 0/ and F/sup +/ mesons and ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ charmed baryon are presented. Fermilab Experiment 531 uses a hybrid emulsion spectrometer to measure the lifetimes of short-lived particles produced in neutrino interactions. The lifetime results presented here are from the first exposure, based on a fitted sample of 11 D/sup +/, 19 D/sup 0/, 3 F/sup +/ and 8 ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ decays. Semileptonic decays of charmed and beauty baryons with heavy sterile neutrinos in the final state

We obtain tree-level estimates of various differential branching ratios of heavy baryon decays with massive sterile neutrinos {nu}{sub x} in the final state. Generally, charmed baryons are found to be less promising than charmed mesons, in contrast to b hadrons. In the latter case, branching ratios of beauty mesons and baryons into sterile neutrinos are of the same order. As a consequence, at high energies beauty baryons give contribution to sterile neutrino production comparable to the contribution of beauty mesons (up to about 15%). Charmed particle production and decay lifetimes and a neutrino oscillation test

This paper reports Fermilab Experiment 531, ''A study of Weak Decay Lifetimes of Neutrino Produced Particles in a Tagged Emulsion Spectrometer''. Lifetimes deduced from 81% of the materials scanned so far are presented for D/sup 0/, D/sup + -/, and F/sup + -/ charmed mesons, and ..lambda../sub c//sup +/ charmed baryons. Some of physical speculations are made basing on those observed lifetimes. Upperlimit of ..nu../sub ..mu../-..nu../sub tau/ oscillation rate is also estimated depending to the present statistics.
