Title: Predicting activity coefficients of multicomponent solutions containing formic acid, acetic acid, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and water

Journal Article · · AIChE Symp. Ser.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6732068

Formic acid and acetic acid are known to associate to an appreciable extent in the vapor phase; also formaldehyde and acetaldehyde are known to exist in equilibrium with their hydrates in an aqueous solution. The vapor-liquid equilibria of such systems can be treated in the usual way, if one takes into account the chemical equilibria as well as the vapor-liquid equilibria. The redefined activity coefficients were further used to predict the vapor-liquid equilibria of multicomponent-systems by an enthalpic Wilson equation. (18 refs.)
