Title: Use of emulsified oil to suppress fugitive dust on haul roads

Abstract

Use of emulsified oil to suppress fugitive dust on haul roads by Monarch Cement Co. was successful in eliminating complaints, satisfying the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment, and improving maintenance of the trucks using the roads. Previous results with water, calcium chloride, and road oil were unsuccessful. The product is made by Witco Chemical Co., Golden Bear Division, available from Dustrol Inc. as Coherex, and used after dilution with nine parts of water. The cost and effect are considered worth the price, $0.65/gal or $10,300/yr.
