This patent describes a method of making a superconducting construct with increased flux pinning energy. It comprises: applying a high strain rate deformation to a superconducting precursor material in an amount sufficient to produce defects serving as flux pinning sites therein; grinding the material; and fabricating a superconducting construct incorporating the ground material.
