Research and development at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) includes renewable and alternative generation technologies. As part of EPRI's planning process, a long range assessment, or strategic plan, is developed annually to examine issues likely to confront the electric utility industry in the future. This paper describes EPRI's long range overview for renewable and alternative generation resources. The current status and future prospects of hydropower, biomass, wind, geothermal, solar-thermal, photovoltaics and fusion are discussed.
