Pulsed bulk discharge with a plasma cathode in molecular gases at high pressure. II. Discharge with ionization multiplication of photoelectrons and light generation

The ranges of parameter values corresponding to a bulk discharge with ionization multiplication of photoelectrons and to an externally maintained strongly preionized discharge in nitrogen and CO/sub 2/ laser mixtures are determined experimentally and compared. The output power of a plasma-cathode bulk discharge excited under conditions of ionization photoelectron multiplication are determined for voltages above and below the threshold for static breakdown. The use of a pulsed bulk discharge with a plasma cathode in designing a CO/sub 2/ laser is reported.
