Deuteron breakup by 140 MeV alpha particles at quasifree scattering conditions

The /sup 2/He(..cap alpha..,..cap alpha..p)n reaction has been studied with 140 MeV alpha particles at p-..cap alpha.. quasifree scattering conditions in the theta/sub c.m./ angular region of 50/sup 0/ to 144/sup 0/. Energy spectra are presented for six angle pairs. Three-body model calculations provide excellent fits to the data. Reasons for the success of the relatively limited three-body model used are discussed.
