After four months of successful operation, the Carneys Point generating facility has demonstrated the viability of selective catalytic reduction technology in coal-fired applications. This is the first coal-fired plant in North America to successfully use SCR. The plant achieves 95% SO[sub 2] removal, particulate emissions below 0.02 MM/Btu, and is able to comply with state NO[sub x] emission standards. Financing of the project is also described.
