An acetone-filled cell was placed inside the resonator of a neodymium laser. A slight inclination of the nontransmitting laser mirror made it possible to emit single giant pulses of 0.3 MW power and 50 nsec duration. This was attributed to self-focusing and splitting of the beam into separate filaments.
