Introduction to mathematical methods of physics
This book covers the material for a course in mathematical physics at the advanced undergraduate level. It focuses on the solutions of ordinary and partial differential equations encountered in physics and their applications to boundary-value problems and on applications of complex variables in physics. Chapter titles are as follows: vectors and matrices, abstract formalism of vector spaces, ordinary differential equations, function spaces and expansions in orthogonal sets, infinite series, evaluation of integrals, some properties of functions of a complex variable, uses of complex variable theory I: evaluation of integrals, uses of complex variable theory II: transform techniques and comformal mapping, uses of complex variable theory III: special topics (dispersion relations, contour integrals, WKB connection formulas), integral equations, and partial differential equations. 109 figures, 2 tables.
