Title: Method for determining the properties of a plasma with a nonequilibrium ionization state from the relative intensities of the K spectra of multiply charged ions

The processes shaping the K spectra of multiply charged H-, He-, and Li-like ions in a plasma with an arbitrary ionization state are studied. It is shown that a comparison of the experimental and theoretical intensities of several of the spectral lines of these ions can reveal both the electron temperature and the distribution of ions in degree of ionization (the distribution among nuclei and H-, He-, and Li-like ions). This new diagnostic method has been used to measure the properties of an expanding laser-produced magnesium plasma.
