Electrotechnology. Volume 3. Stationary lead-acid batteries: applications and performance
The reliability of lead-acid batteries used in stationary applications is the central topic of the book. Each of the more common battery designs is described and the range of applications in which they are used is discussed. Practices for maintenance, monitoring, and proper use are considered in detail, for both designs most often used in North America and those most common to the European countries. Failure mechanisms are described and related to actual experiences reported by the Bell Telephone System and various data bases on nuclear reactor systems (where stationary batteries are an important element of the safety system). Finally, the European experience with various generations of battery designs is discussed in detail. 16 figures, 35 tables. (RWR)
