A method and apparatus are described for positioning and correlating the location of the end of remedial operation tubing in relation to the lower end of production tubing in an oil or gas well. The locating means are hydraulically activated to contact the end of the production tubing, causing interference with subsequent upper movement of the apparatus. The device is useful in locating a zone to be treated by fracturing, acidizing, cementing, chemical injection, etc. (32 claims)
