The variation in the temperature of the heating wall upon onset of the boiling crisis in pipe flow of moderately subcooled and saturated water is analyzed. The range of coolant flow variables over which no jumpwise change in the temperature of the pipe wall is observed (and reliable operation of heat exchangers at above-critical heat fluxes is possible) is defined.
