Title: Life extension of high energy piping systems

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6617870

Life extension considerations and inspection of high energy power plant piping are discussed in this paper. Metallurgical phenomenon such as creep, thermal softening, fatigue, and allowable stresses are reviewed. Concerns such as unexpected stress concentrations, over temperature operation, improper materials, P-11 considerations, piping support system problems, and weld integrity are addressed. Nondestructive and destructive testing are also discussed. Finally a systematic and comprehensive phased inspection program to verify and maintain piping system integrity is presented.
