In New Zealand Black (NZB) mice, chromosomal instability is associated with a high risk of lymphoreticular neoplasia. Since this association is related in ataxia telangiectasia to a particular sensitivity to ionizing radiation, the radiosensitivity of NZB mice was studied. The results are not in favor of an abnormal radiosensitivity as judged by the incidence of chromosome damage and postirradiation lethality. The increase in chromosome breaks and rearrangements is due to an excess in aberration production rather than to a defective repair of DNA.
