Title: A method for selectively eliminating sulfur compounds from combustible gases (in French)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6580505

A method for the elimination of sulfur compounds from combustible gas and for the utilization of the sulfur compounds in the form of ammonium sulfate, consists of putting the combustible gas in contact with activated carbon at temperatures ranging from 1 - 250/sup 0/C. The sulfur components are adsorbed on the activated carbon and react with the oxygen and water vapor present in the gas in order to form (on the activated carbon) sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid is made to react with ammonia, in order to recover the sulfur in the form of ammonium sulfate and to regenerate the carbon. The regenerated carbon is then flushed with water and reused.
