Mg II resonance line emission at 2800 A in stars with different rotational velocities and different metal abundances

We have studied Mg II k line (2795.7 A) emission fluxes in stars of different effective temperatures, gravities, rotational velocities, and metal abundances. We find that stars with variable radial velocities show enhanced fluxes, while rapidly rotating F stars show reduced fluxes as compared to slowly rotating stars. We find a reduction of k emission for metal deficient stars which is nearly independent of the deficiency factor, except for extremely low abundances. We discuss the implication for the heating of the chromospheres.
