The values of the activity, the activity coefficients, the free energy of mixing and the excess free energy of mixing have been calculated for CeCl/sub 3/-LnCl/sub 3/-H/sub 2/O systems (where Ln identical with Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Y) containing solid solutions of types IV and IVa. It is shown that the stability of the solid solutions decreases with increasing difference between the radii of the cations of cerium and the second lanthanide, which enter into the composition of the components of the solid solutions. The factors determining the composition of a liquid solution corresponding to the eutonic point are specified.
