Self-consisent transfer maps for beams with space charge using Lie algebraic methods

We present a new approach to doing beam transport calculations in the presence of space charge. The approach is based on the self-consistent computation of transfer maps. In the linear approximation, the maps are represented by matrices. For the general case, the maps are represented and computed using Lie algebraic methods. This new approach is particularly useful for computing tunes and aberration coefficients in the presence of space charge.
