Geologic and hydrologic factors in the Rio Grande region, New Mexico and Texas, of the Basin and Range Province were examined to provide a basis for further study to identify prospective areas that may provide isolation of high-level radioactive waste from the accessible environment. The Rio Grande region, New Mexico and Texas, one of six regions, is characterized with respect to guidelines pertaining to geology and potential host media; Quaternary tectonic conditions; ground-water hydrology, including Pleistocene hydrologic conditions; and mineral and energy resources.
