Title: Results from the Power Burst Facility Severe Fuel Damage Test 1-4

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6534324

The Severe Fuel Damage Test 1-4 (SFD 1-4) was conducted in the Power Burst Facility (PBF) at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory on February 7, 1985. The test was the last in a series of four in-pile tests performed in the PBF as part of an internationally sponsored light water severe fuel damage research program initiated by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The objective of the PBF SFD program was to contribute to the understanding of fuel and control rod behavior; hydrogen generation; and fission product and aerosol release, transport and deposition during a severe reactor accident. In addition, the data will aid in the development and assessment of detailed computer codes and in resolving some of the outstanding NRC safety issues related to severe reactor accidents. 8 refs., 7 figs.
