A progress report on the present DOE high- and mid-temperature conversion programs involving distributed collectors, the perceived test needs necessary to accomplish program goals, and a survey of the presently available test facilities are given. A brief evaluation of the existing facilities leads to recommendations that new facilities be established at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories and at SERI, that Sandia continue to receive strong support, and that several smaller facilities should not be upgraded to meet anticipated future needs.
