Over the past few years the Livermore Computer Center has converted from a home grown system'' facility to a more or less standard UNIX environment. As a result we have several hundred UNIX on our network ranging from the UNICOS Crays to Sun workstations. For the usual reasons we want to maintain a single UID space across all these systems. This paper describes some of the problems and issues we have encountered in pursuit of this goal.
