Title: Industry`s responsibility for ensuring environmental justice: The debate continues

Journal Article · · Environmental Solutions
OSTI ID:64529

Should industry executives and managers begin to develop strategies addressing the sensitive issue of environmental justice? The environmental justice debate is over whether and how environmental harms and risks have been disproportionately distributed, and whether and how environmental laws have been unevenly enforced among communities. In the interest of highlighting the diverse perspectives surrounding the unresolved debate over environmental justice, Environmental Solutions contacted several groups and individuals actively involved in the issue. Part 1 of this report, published in May, focused on the views of researchers whose studies lead to conflicting conclusions about the role of race and income in determining where hazardous waste facilities are located. Part 2, in this issue, presents the views and official positions on environmental justice of the Environmental Protection Agency, key industry and professional associations, and environmental and civil rights groups.
