Title: Electrochemical synthesis of 2-ethylhexanoic acid from 2-ethyl-1-hexanol

Journal Article · · Sov. Electrochem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6449830

The authors comparatively test a variety of electrode materials for their possible use in an electrolytic cell in which the oxidation and electrolysis of 2-ethyl-1-hexanol leads to the production of 2-ethylhexanoic acid. The materials tested are nickel, platinum, lead, steel-12Kh18N9T, lead oxide, nickel oxide, and carbon cloth; the properties for which they were tested include their electrocatalytic behavior and their comparative ability to enhance the hexanoic acid yield as well as the energy efficiency of the cell. Hexanoic acid yield was measured by titration.
